FALKE, GERMANY
A RARE .22 UNDER-LEVER AIR-RIFLE, MODEL '80', serial no. 1036,
circa 1949, with blued 19in. barrel marked on the top 'KAL 5.5mm GEZ', the underside 'MADE IN GERMANY', ramp fore-sight (detachable blade missing), micro adjustable rear-sight operating on an applied machined rail to the air-chamber, octagonal breech with automatic loading tap, the end of the air-chamber with 'FALKE MOD 80' and an engraving of a bird of prey at rest, further machined rail to top of trigger-unit, chequered beech half-stock with plastic 'FALKE' heel-plate, twin finger-groove to fore-end, the left side stamped 'FALKE' together with the bird of prey trade-mark and concealed blued under-lever, the whole retaining much original finish

Other Notes: Established in 1949, the firm of Falkewerke in Wennigsen, Hanover originally provided maintenance to conveyor belt machinery. By 1951 they were also producing fairground gallery targets and launched a series of airguns. Based on existing designs by BSA, Diana and Haenel, these airguns were of far superior quality, but unfortunately the giants of the industry soon crushed the low output rate with volume sales and by 1958 Falkewerke went out of business. Because of the low volume of manufacture (it is believed less than 400 of the model 80 were produced for example), Falke airguns are of considerable interest to collectors today.
